If your realistic view doesn’t work, install the 2022.0.1 hotfix within the Autodesk Desktop application to resolve the issue.
We previously wrote a post on how to resolve a Revit file that fails to open, but in the 2022 release, some files open with a failed realistic view that stutters the screen or does not work at all. Here’s how to fix this:
Install A Hotfix
- Click the Show hidden icons arrow in the taskbar
- Open Autodesk Desktop App
- Find the 2022.0.1 hotfix
- Click Update
Recent Files
Another workaround for this issue is to open the project within the user interface. Open Revit from the window list, then use the Home > Recent Projects menu.
Fixed an issue where if a Revit was opened by directly double clicking an .rvt file, Realistic views would not display and Revit would crash after the program was closed.

Here are more solutions for realistic view problems…
Blank View
Make sure you have the latest driver for your video card, unplug all connections to the monitor, and check your hardware against Revit’s system requirements.
- Go to File tab > Options > Hardware
- Check the Hardware Acceleration (Direct3D) box.
Elements
Families, DWGs, and Coordination links could be lost in view.
- Uncheck Imported Categories in Visibility and Graphics (Shortcut: VG)
- Zoom all to fit (Shortcut: ZA)
Printing
When printing realistic views, vector processing should be used to adjust resolution because it preserves the vector nature of objects.
